Methodology: how we collect and check prices

Every number on HairLossCosts should be checkable. This page explains where our prices come from, how we turn them into comparable figures, and the rules we follow.

Where prices come from

Every row is labelled as a Published price or a Patient-reported quote, and links to its source. Current transplant price sources:

Check dates

Every row shows a date. For transplant prices it's the date on the source, or, when a page is undated, the date we accessed it (hover over the date to see which). Treatment prices show the date we last read them on the seller's page. We re-check prices regularly and update the date when we do. Prices change, so always confirm with the clinic or seller before you pay.

Evidence ratings

Supplement, device and procedure pages include a short evidence rating with a link to the study or review it's based on. It summarizes how much published research there is for hair regrowth. It isn't a recommendation and it isn't medical advice.

RatingWhat it means
StrongConsistent results across several well-run randomized controlled trials, or regulatory approval for hair loss.
LimitedSome positive randomized or controlled evidence, but the studies are small, short, use different protocols, or are funded by the maker. It may help; it isn't proven to the same standard.
Limited (emerging)Early human studies or reviews of a new approach, with very few randomized trials so far.
WeakOne small trial, lab or animal studies only, or reviews that found little support for hair regrowth.
n/a (cosmetic)A cosmetic option (hair systems, fibers, scalp micropigmentation) that hides hair loss rather than treating it, so a growth rating doesn't apply.

Prescription drug and minoxidil pages don't carry a rating column: they compare prices for the same medicine, and whether it suits you is a prescriber's decision. Ratings never depend on whether a seller pays us.

Affiliate links and paid listings

Affiliate links and featured listings never change the order of a table, a “quick answer”, a country ranking, an evidence rating, or whether a clinic or product is listed. Tables sort by price. Options that pay us nothing, like discount pharmacies, are listed on the same terms as those that do. Any table with affiliate links has a disclosure directly above it, those links are marked as sponsored, and paid rows carry a visible Featured · paid label. Details: disclosure.

Limitations

Published prices are often “from” prices, and a final quote depends on your hair loss, donor area and the clinic's assessment. Treatment prices can change daily and may depend on promotions or plan length. Read the assumption under each number, and confirm before paying.
