- Dose normalization. Topical packs are compared by the supply length printed on the pack (usually 1 month per 2 oz can or bottle). Oral rows assume one 2.5 mg tablet a day; many hair-loss prescriptions use less, which would lower the cost.
- Oral minoxidil is off-label. It's FDA-approved only for severe high blood pressure and carries a boxed warning. Only a prescriber can decide whether it's right for you.
- Subscription traps. OTC minoxidil doesn't need a subscription. If you choose one, check how often it ships and how to pause it.
- Generic vs brand. Kirkland, Foligain and Rogaine 5% contain the same active ingredient; you're paying for the brand and the base (foam vs solution).
