What to watch for
- Not FDA-approved. Compounded products aren't reviewed by the FDA for safety or effectiveness. Strength varies by formula.
- Dose normalization. Formulas differ (0.25% vs other strengths, extra ingredients like tretinoin), so a cheaper blend isn't necessarily the same treatment.
- Subscription traps. Most ship automatically every 1–3 months. Intro discounts (Keeps showed 30% off the first order) don't last.
- Generic vs brand. There's no branded US topical finasteride to compare against; oral generic finasteride is far cheaper per month.

Is topical finasteride cheaper than oral?
No. The cheapest compounded topical we verified was $35/mo, versus about $4–$11/mo for generic oral finasteride at a discount pharmacy.
Is topical finasteride FDA-approved?
No. In the US, topical finasteride is only available compounded. A phase III trial in Europe supported a topical spray there, but US compounded products aren't FDA-reviewed.
